ABOUT TARADOODLE STUDIO

My quilty obsession has roots from way back in the '90s when I saw the magic my mother-in-law could make with scraps.  She did immense hand-pieced and then hand-quilted works that I knew I would never find the time to do, but I figured out how to quilt with my trusty Kenmore Machine, purchased with all the money I made at my first job singing on a riverboat (I seriously landed that gig!)

My jaw dropped when I saw a simple loopy meander in a "how-to" book on how to quilt, I knew I wanted to master it, but my first attempts at free-motion quilting (FMQ) were abysmal and disappointing, so I stuck to simple walking-foot and hand-quilting options for a while.

Fast forward to 2014, when I walked into Quilt Canada on a whim and was floored by what was possible with a machine.  I finally realized that if all these quilts can be beautiful, then there MUST be a way for me to work around my challenges.  I YouTubed every domestic quilter and Craftsied my way to a decent mastery of  FMQ at my domestic machine.

My husband Kirk (who is a very handsome blue-eyed carpenter) has contributed so much to the Doodle Studio--He "dropped" two different machines into tables so I could learn free-motion quilting skills, constructed cutting tables, encouraged me to pursue my passion and even gone so far as to build an addition to our home so I could have a studio big enough to accommodate a longarm.  Yep, he's a keeper. Thanks to him, my Doodle Studio dreams came true, so my next step was to buy a sweet, used APQS longarm, Lenore.  I can't spend enough time in that space, even if I try!

My favourite part of quilting is when customers see their quilt for the first time at pickup.  I love the delight in their eyes as they discover all the new little details that have been added to enhance their piecing.  I would love to help you find the perfect quilting design for your quilt and make it happen.  You're going to love having or sharing that finished quilt!

I am a member of the Niagara Modern Quilt Guild, Canadian Quilter's Association and a die-hard life-long learner.  I love to teach as much as I love to learn, and I hope to catch you at a class, quilting event, guild meeting OR at the Doodle Studio soon!
